September 20, 2009: First of all, this movie is made for a Big Screen. The main reason for a big screen is the subtitles. But, the scenes are stunning when watched on a big screen. The plot is great. This movie is so exciting it can give you a heart attack.

I hadn't seen this movie since it was at the theater. But, I recently finished reading "The River of Doubt." The book reminded me of this movie in some way so I rented it and watched it again. If you haven't seen this movie, first of all, buy a big high def TV if you don't already have one. Then, buy this movie and you will be clutching on to your seat.

March 23, 2009: speaking in their native tongue. I am not an expert on MAYAN culture per se but have seen Discovery Channel et al and had a feel for the quality of life these people must have had. Mel adds personality and drama to the cold historical facts in regard to the MAYA in a way that brought the plight of the Scots under English rule to life in Braveheart. I thougt the casting was right on........the handsome, brave hero and the very ugly, very cruel villain. The story line was very reflective of the times and the reason war was waged by these people. The objective was even more frightening than what we are fighting for today. The story had enough suspense to keep you interested and enough pathos to root for the home team throughout! The ending was profound in its subtleness and I found myself pondering this fact long after the movie ended.

A really great movie about a great people that all but vanished overnight.
