Editorial Reviews

Antonio Gaudi's startling, unique architectural and essentially sculptural creations like his undulating walls are presented with clarity and in context in this interesting documentary by Hiroshi Teshigahara. Gaudi was a Catalan, like his well-known fellow artists Pablo Picasso, Joan Miro, and Salvador Dali, and he was inspired by Catalan art of the Middle Ages, specifically the Romanesque Period. Teshigahara provides a background on the region and politics of Cataluna, and reviews the Romanesque Period in art, 1000-1300 C.E., so that viewers can understand where Gaudi was coming from. Then the artist's creations are analyzed in a succinct, careful manner which reveals more to the eye than just uninformed looking could ever do. Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

disappointing....by DeChant

August 04, 2009: ...for the price. Mainly because there was no narrative. It's difficult to rate this

because as far as I know there is no other DVD about Gaudi. I bought it because

Sidney Pollack rated it among his top 5 favorite documentary films, and it influenced Pollack's documentary of Frank Gehry. But I would like to have an narrative accompaniment to what I was seeing. There's such a story to tell about Gaudi...and the story was absent!

Really wonderful sort of blend of Japan & Spain.by Anonymous

October 14, 2004: I saw this video a few days ago and I think it is great. I esp. like the lack of narration and the spooky music. The film puts Gaudi in some social context by showing a little of Picasso's work, etc. in Barcelona. There is one mention of the Spanish Civil War. There are few subtitles and a little tour of the churches of Catalonia of the middle ages.
