    Editorial Reviews

Andy LaVerne has received a number of composition and performance grants from America's National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) program and successfully toured as a jazz pianist around the world. All of his experience and background inform his teachings on this video about scales, modes, voicings, and chord progressions. LaVerne also reviews several of his own compositions, including "I.R.S," "Circadian Rhythm," and "Suzy's World" to help viewers understand the way he chose to write them. He performs each song on the Yamaha Disklavier so that students can listen to the songs at half-speed and more easily analyze and play every note. Elizabeth Smith, All Movie Guide
