Andy LaVerne is an internationally known jazz master who served as the pianist, composer, and arranger for the Stan Getz Quartet. He has played with such acclaimed performers as Frank Sinatra and Dizzy Gillespie. On this video, LaVerne teaches students how to play the piano in his own style, as well as that of Chick Corea, McCoy Tyner, Herbie Hancock, Keith Jarrett, and Bill Evans. He also explains aspects of jazz improvisation, chord voicings, rhythm comping, and other techniques that pianists can use while playing alone or with a band. A number of practice sessions, recorded with and without piano accompaniment, allow viewers to play along with the group. Elizabeth Smith, All Movie Guide
