Performance footage and interviews combine to offer a hilarious look at controversial comedian Andy Kauffman's surreal journey into the world of professional wrestling. He had kept Americans in stitches as a featured player on the hit television sitcom Taxi, but Kaufman would single-handedly destroy his small-screen career when he went on television to taunt Memphis-based professional wrestler Jerry "The King" Lawler", and challenged females to fight him in the ring. As Kaufman put every ounce of his energy into taunting Lawler, his abrasive form of comedic performance art alienated the fan-base that had so ardently supported him during his days as lovable, squeaky-voiced cabbie Latka Gravas on the series that propelled him to stardom. In this documentary, fans are offered a rare glimpse into the genius of a comic who was so effective at duping the audience that many assumed his diagnoses with terminal cancer was just another warped gag. April 06, 2008: Andy Kaufman was one of the most gifted stand-up comedians of the 70's. Kaufman's genius was signified by his ability to toy with the elastic boundaries of "reality" and the great "put-on". Kaufman's run as a "professional wrestler" was his ultimate "put-on". Kaufman's "inter-gender" championship matches, and his subsequent feud with Memphis' Jerry "The King" Lawler, generated the type of extreme heat that wrestling promoters long for, since it is a certainty given the type of heat that Kaufman was able to draw, their would be plenty of asses in the seats each and every night. The mere fact that Kaufman was succesfully able to accomplish what he did during his illusory wrestling career so convincingly, is both a reflection of his genius and indicates truly how much times have changed in the modern, "smart-fan" era of wrestling.

February 11, 2001: This is a very in depth look at Andy Kaufman's wrestling career. From his first apperence in Memphis Tenessee wrestling a lady to when Jerry ''The King'' Lawler put Andy in a neck brace and ''supposedely'' broke his neck. If you know the lovable Andy from Taxi as Latka Gravas, this is an ultimate change. Andy Kaufman's personality on this video is rude, obnoxious and conceited. and damn near hilarious to say the least! I would reccomend the DVD version of this film, because it is accompanied with the Andy Kaufman produced film ''My Breakfast With Blassie'' in which Andy Kaufman sits down with wrestler Fred Blassie and enjoys breakfast. This movie is definately a MUST HAVE for any Kaufman fan.
