    Editorial Reviews

Elizabeth Hartman stars in this unpleasant Spanish-Italian action film. When a group of women escape from a prison deep in the Amazon jungle, they are captured by evil Brazilian natives who make them slaves. Osualdo de Oliveira's film is as racist and repellent as any of Jesus Franco or Umberto Lenzi's similar Amazon freakshows, but does feature lesbianism and plentiful bare skin to keep its intended audience interested. August 15, 2008: &quot Amazon Jail&quot is chockful of naked and semi-naked women incarcerated by a rich man and woman in a bamboo jail in the middle of a remote Brazilian jungle. The women are ordered by the two rich sybarites to put on risque parties for male guests who fly in to partake of the women's favors and will pay happily for them. Sound ludicrous? It is! But there is plenty of comely flesh on display, and as Quentin Tarantino would say(as he said of his own &quot Kill Bill&quot ), it's a movie about female empowerment. After all, the women escape their bamboo prison and use their feminine wiles to survive a harrowing trek through the jungle where they meet yet more sex-starved men who will stop at nothing to possess their nubile bodies. The women know this and lure the willing victims to their doom with their skills at seduction. Sure, it's schlock--but it's mindless fun, nevertheless.
