Fans of this long-running BBC comedy benefited when Series 5 began in September 1988: 26 episodes were produced rather than the usual 6. Seeking to bring 'Allo to the U.S. audience, an American production company co-funded 26 episodes, enough for an entire season in the U.S. The deal fell through, however, allowing British fans alone to enjoy 26 25-minute episodes -- shorter than the 30-minute broadcasts customary in the U.K., due to the fact that they were created with American commercials in mind. This set offers the final 13 episodes of Series 5 -- airing from December 1988 through February 1989 -- in which the British airmen are still trying to devise a way to get home; René (Gorden Kaye) comes into possession of four gold bars stolen from the Gestapo; and the Resistance steals the Nazi secret coding machine, the Enigma.
