Editorial Reviews

A spoof of war-based dramas, the long-running BBC Britcom 'Allo 'Allo begins its second series with café owner René Artois (Gorden Kaye) still making appearances as his fictitious twin brother, after faking his death in Series 1. That brings up a problem with his formidable wife, Edith (Carmen Silvera), who has found his will and goes on a spending spree. Edith has also recently become the focus of romantic attentions from wealthy undertaker Monsieur Alfonse (Kenneth Connor). Marrying Edith off would allow René to pursue waitresses Yvette (Vicki Michelle) and Maria (Francesca Gonshaw), but the idea of losing all his money along with the café is too much for him, and he stops the courtship. Also on René's mind is a priceless painting, The Fallen Madonna with the Big Boobies, and he works with Resistance fighters Michelle (Kirsten Cooke) and Helga (Kim Hartman) to keep it out of Hitler's hands. And those bumbling British airmen are back: Last seen hiding in a piano, they've returned to the café dressed as nuns. Later, they disguise themselves as a cow and have a close call with some German soldiers who have a yen for some fresh milk; British intelligence officer Crabtree (Arthur Bostrom) comes to their aid by pretending to be a French gendarme -- despite his strangled French -- and stitches together stolen silk underwear to make them a hot air balloon. This collection contains the six episodes that aired during 1985's Series 2, along with the bonus episode "The Gateau from the Chateau" that aired as a special in the U.K. Christina Urban, Barnes & Noble
