Editorial Reviews

Despite its continued struggle for viewers in its sophomore season (2007-8) -- it finished 94th -- the NBC series 30 Rock won its second consecutive Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series as well as continued critical accolades. Created by former Saturday Night Live head writer Tina Fey, 30 Rock focuses on what goes on behind the scenes at the fictional sketch comedy series The Girly Show with Tracy Jordan. Fey stars as Liz Lemon, the show's harried head writer, who must deal with NBC executive Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin) and her staff, including: producer Pete (Scott Adsit); writers Frank (Judah Friedlander), James (Keith Powell), and J.D. (John Lutz); ditzy assistant Cerie (Katrina Bowden); Girly Show actors Tracy Jordan (Tracy Morgan) and Jenna (Jane Krakowski); and scene-stealing NBC page Kenneth (Jack McBrayer). Season 2's continuing storylines feature Liz's constant search for a stable boyfriend after dumping both Floyd (Jason Sudeikis) and Dennis (Dean Winters); Jack's campaign to succeed GE CEO Don Geiss (Rip Torn) by plotting against his nemesis Devon Banks (Will Arnett), while also entering into a secret relationship with a liberal congresswoman, C. C. Cunningham (Edie Falco); Jenna's weight gain from starring in Mystic Pizza: The Musical!; and Tracy's breakup with his wife and decision to make Kenneth his "office wife." By the season finale, "Cooter," Liz faces a pregnancy scare and Jack goes to work for the government. Cut short by the writers' strike, this season comprises just 15 episodes, all fantastic, resulting in a total of seven Emmys, including a trophy for Baldwin and three for Fey: performing, producing, and writing (for "Cooter"). Even Funnier Than Season Oneby DavidWhite

July 26, 2009: I think the show stayed true to it's quirky eccentric roots in this season, where as Season 3 seems to be going for more mainstream appeal, and for that I value Season 2 and think it was the best yet.

I Also Recommend: 30 Rock - Season 1.

February 11, 2009: This has to be the funniest show on TV. A terrific team of actors create dialog that keeps me laughing long after the episode has ended. Definately must see TV.
