A fusion of indigenous rhythms, spoken word, and images from around the world, 1 Giant Leap is a visual journey captained by a host of influential artists. Musican-filmmakers Jamie Catto and Duncan Bridgeman toured the globe, from Kenya to India to Australia, overlaying their footage with provocative sounds and narration from such artists as Michael Stipe, Kurt Vonnegut, Tim Robbins, and Dennis Hopper. The result is a 12-chapter meditation on humanity's place in the cosmos, confronting topics as varied as sex, God, money, and time. 1 Giant Leap is the latest contribution to a still-nascent filmmaking genre, which includes Godfrey Reggio's Koyaanisqatsi and Powaqqatsi, as well as Ron Fricke's Baraka, each of which documents the universality of the human condition. For anyone seeking a new perspective on our surroundings, set to a worthy collection of international music, look no further. Barnes & Noble

July 05, 2005: Anyone with even the slightest interest in the human condition - whether that's on an individual, collective or global level should see this film. I have shown and recommended this film to countless people, all of whom, without exception have loved it. Duncan Bridgeman and Jamie Catto have made a remarkable film that is easily digested in bite size chunks - I have found myself going back to different sections again and again. Through some terrific interviews with well known faces, some incredible music that is worth the purchase of the soundtrack alone (it's AMAZING) and some of the most inspiring, beautiful footage this film communicates beautifully the message that we can all be different, and still be the same. It is the perfect antidote the exclusionary, dictatorial politics of our times and there are many people in powerful positions who would squirm in their seats if shown parts of this DVD. If nothing else, this film can help restore your faith in humanity ...Buy it.
